In 1984, Marc Smith started an open mic at the Get Me High lounge on Honore street in Bucktown where poets were encouraged to perform their work with their whole body instead of merely reading it.   This evolved into the first poetry slam there in 1986 and eventually the migration to another jazz hangout--The Green Mill.   Even though the Poetry Slam movement spread to other big cities and then across the country building to the first National Poetry Slam in San Francisco in 1990, and then to over 500 cities worldwide --Marc's fingerprint remains.

Al Day and Bob Long have been musical colleagues for over forty years spanning the evolution of Chicago folk and jazz music scenes .  Al's signature voice and evocative lyrics and Bob's piano sorcery, smart composition and pursuit of rich hidden musicana make their performances both a delight and an education.

We guarantee that the words and music these guys have cooked up along with improvisational saxophonist, Brian Gephart and bassist, Doug Lofstrom is something unique!
